We are a social and economic experiment: Masseria Palombara is not just an iconic building; it is a project of environmental sustainability, circular economy, a social project, and the recovery of an archaeological site dating back to 700 BC.
We have carried out a conservative restoration by subtraction, removing everything that had been added to the original structure of the Masseria over the last 700 years. We have adopted old construction techniques and materials of the time.
We have recovered an area of about three hectares, bringing back to life a Messapic quarry from 700 BC that became Roman between 100 BC and 100 AD. We have found the remains of a Roman carriage road. In an underground chamber, there are traces of a Basilian church from the 1400s. We have recovered a 15th-century Dovecote Tower, a strategic military outpost that housed pigeons for sending and receiving messages when the internet did not yet exist.
We adopt the philosophy of recycling and recovery in all our operations. Within the estate, we have a carpentry workshop where we give new life to everything. From furniture to doors, every element has been and is being restored and renewed daily by our staff in our atelier.
Our staff is entirely composed of young people from the local community. From the beginning, we have promoted the employment of local human resources and businesses, contributing to the well-being and growth of the surrounding community.
We carefully manage 100 hectares of land organically. A significant portion of our energy needs is covered by our production of photovoltaic energy. For heating, we utilize solar thermal energy and complete our ecological approach by using the residues from pruning our trees.
